•Jamie took a one year break after high school to do volunteer work in Southeast Asia and to tour Europe and Egypt. He even spent a summer working at Gregg Distributors in Edmonton! After this, he spent two years starting an undergraduate degree in science at the University of Alberta and played Jr. B hockey for the Beverly Warriors. •During the hockey season of 2004-05, Canada’s "Own the Podium" initiative identified him as a possible candidate. This recruitment program searched for athletes in other sports who could possibly win medals in Long Track Speed Skating. It sounds like a perfect fit! •Continuing his sports and academic goals, Jamie moved to Calgary for the 2006-07 season to skate at Calgary's Olympic Oval. He qualified for the National Development Team through national ranked competitions and for the 2007-08 season was placed in the National Sprint Group with Canada’s best sprinters. •Jamie qualified for the Salt Lake City World Cup in November 2007 and placed fourth in the "B" group for the 1000m and fifth for the 500m. He also qualified for the World Cup in Norway in January 2008, and placed sixth and third in the "B" group for the 500m. •In September 2008 Jamie relocated to Richmond, B.C. to continue his training in Long Track Speed Skating. |
